Antique enamelled portrait ring, 9ct gold, Cut steel, Mother of pearlA superb antique 19th century portrait miniature ring. A tiny portrait, all hand enamelled in vibrant colours of a lady in full profile in a garden setting, the portrait has been enamelled on mother of pearl and this can be seen through the back of the ring. It is large, pretty and vibrant, a definite statement piece. The enamelled panel has been set with a surrounding halo of cut steel 'gems', cut steel was a popular alternative to diamonds at a time

the front has been decorated with black enamel and the centre has an array of tiny seed pearl set into a star motif

the spring ring fastener and dog clip are both marked 9 375 for 9ct gold

18ct gold was not reintroduced as a standard until 1798

It is finely modelled in rich 9ct yellow gold as a church or Chapel with lots of realistic detailing
